Naming Words

Everything we see, touch, feel, or think about has a name. The word 'dog' is the name for a furry animal that barks. The word 'park' is the name for a place where we play. The word 'teacher' is the name for a person who helps us learn. Words that give names to people, places, things, and animals are the building blocks of our sentences. We call these 'naming words' or 'nouns'. Without nouns, we wouldn't be able to say what we are talking about!

A noun is a word that names a person, a place, a thing, or an animal.
