Describing Words

Two children each have a balloon. That is all we know — until someone adds a describing word. 'A big red balloon.' Now we can picture it exactly. Adjectives are the words that paint the picture. They tell us what something is like: its colour, its size, how many there are, or how it feels.

An adjective is a word that tells us more about a noun.
