Common Nouns

Common Nouns

Common nouns are words that name general people, places, things, or animals. They are the most common type of noun. We use them every day when we talk about ordinary objects and people.

Proper Nouns

Proper nouns are special naming words. They name a particular person, place, thing, or animal. Proper nouns always begin with a capital letter, no matter where they appear in a sentence.

Singular and Plural Nouns

Nouns can be singular or plural. Singular means one. Plural means more than one. Learning singular and plural helps us talk about numbers correctly.

Regular Plurals

Regular plurals follow simple rules. Most nouns just add -s to become plural. Some nouns need -es. These rules help us spell plural forms correctly.

Irregular Plurals

Some nouns do not follow the regular rules for plurals. They change in special ways. These are called irregular plurals. We need to memorize them because they cannot be predicted by rules.

Collective Nouns โ€“ Basic Introduction

A collective noun is a special noun that names a group of people, animals, or things. Instead of listing each member, we use one word for the whole group. For example, a 'flock' means many birds together.
