Building a Better Noun
We rarely use a noun on its own. We often add words before it, after it, or around it to give more information. 'Dog' is a noun, but 'the big, friendly dog from next door' gives you a much clearer picture. This group of words, all working together to name and describe one thing, is a crucial building block for richer and more precise sentences.

Pronouns are convenient shortcuts. Instead of saying 'Maria said Maria was tired', we say 'Maria said she was tired.' But what happens when 'she' could refer to Maria or to another girl in the story?
