Time helps us organize our lives! We use calendars to track large blocks of time like days, weeks, and months, and we use clocks to measure smaller intervals of time like hours and minutes.

Worked example
Problem: An analog clock has its short hour hand positioned exactly halfway between the numbers 8 and 9. Its long minute hand points straight down at the number 6. Write this time in standard digital format and in words.
- Look at the short hour hand: It has passed the 8 but has not reached the 9 yet. This means the current hour is 8.
- Look at the long minute hand: It points at 6. Skip count by 5s six times from the top of the clock face:
- Combine the hour and minutes into digital format: 8:30.
- Convert this to standard time words: A minute hand pointing at the 6 means it is exactly half-hour past the hour, written as "Half past eight".
