Rupees, Paise, Coins & Notes

In India we use rupees (₹) and paise. 100 paise = ₹1.
Coins come in ₹1, ₹2, ₹5, ₹10. Notes come in ₹10, ₹20, ₹50, ₹100, ₹200, ₹500. To find a total, add the values of all the coins and notes.

Worked example

Problem: How much is ₹10 + ₹5 + ₹2?

  1. 10 + 5 + 2 = ₹17.

Answer: 10 + 5 + 2 = ₹17.

Adding Money & Making Change

We add and subtract money just like normal numbers. To find change, subtract what you spent from what you gave.
Example: you buy a toy for ₹35 and pay with a ₹50 note. Change = 50 − 35 = ₹15.

Worked example

Problem: A pen costs ₹18 and a book ₹45. Total cost?

  1. 18 + 45 = ₹63.

Answer: 18 + 45 = ₹63.
