Days and Months

A week has 7 days: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
A year has 12 months: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December.
A calendar shows all the days and months!

Worked example

Problem: How many days are in a week?

  1. Count: Sunday to Saturday.
  2. That is 7 days.

Answer: 7

Parts of the Day

MORNING: the sun rises, we wake up and go to school.
AFTERNOON: the sun is high, we have lunch.
EVENING: the sun sets, we play and do homework.
NIGHT: it is dark, we sleep.

Worked example

Problem: When do we eat lunch: morning, afternoon or night?

  1. Lunch is the mid-day meal.
  2. Mid-day is the afternoon.

Answer: afternoon

Reading Time to the Hour

A clock has 2 hands.
The SHORT hand shows the HOUR. The LONG hand shows the MINUTES.
When the long hand points at 12, we say o'clock.
Short hand at 3, long hand at 12: it is 3 o'clock!

Worked example

Problem: The short hand is at 8, the long hand is at 12. What time is it? (type the number)

  1. Long hand at 12 means o'clock.
  2. Short hand at 8 means 8 o'clock.

Answer: 8
